Il soffitto in cannicciato è realizzato con una struttura lignea portante e listelli di legno su cui viene fissato un intreccio vegetale intonacato. Questa tecnica, diffusa fino alla metà del XX secolo, garantiva superfici uniformi e durature. Spesso decorato con motivi geometrici o figurativi, il cannicciato era impiegato anche nelle volte dei saloni di rappresentanza, con dipinti a secco o mezzo fresco.

Tipico del Nord Italia e di altre aree mediterranee, il soffitto in arelle è composto da listelli lignei disposti in fasce parallele su travetti di sostegno, ricoperti da malta a base di calce. Su questa superficie potevano essere realizzati intonaci decorativi o dipinti.
Il restauro delle arelle è particolarmente delicato per gli spessori maggiori della malta e richiede competenze strutturali e materiali innovativi, reversibili e sicuri, con attenzione al green cantieristico.

La centina, o volta a botte, è una copertura arcuata presente in chiese, palazzi storici e porticati. La struttura, temporaneamente sostenuta da centine durante i lavori, distribuisce uniformemente il peso verso le pareti portanti.

Restoration of Reed-Covered Ceilings
The cannicciato ceiling is made with a wooden supporting framework and wooden slats to which a woven layer of reeds or similar plant material is attached and then plastered. This technique, common until the mid-20th century, provided smooth and durable surfaces. Often decorated with geometric or figurative motifs, cannicciato ceilings were also used in vaulted reception rooms, featuring dry or semi-fresco paintings.
DelArs Restauri has extensive experience in the conservation and restoration of these surfaces, working both on decorative finishes and supporting structures, in close collaboration with the Superintendencies for Cultural Heritage.
Restoration of Arelle Ceilings
Typical of Northern Italy and other Mediterranean areas, the arelle ceiling consists of wooden strips laid in parallel bands over supporting beams and covered with lime-based mortar. Decorative plasters or paintings were often applied on this surface.
The restoration of arelle ceilings is particularly delicate due to the greater thickness of the mortar and requires structural expertise as well as the use of innovative, reversible, and safe materials, with careful attention to environmentally sustainable construction practices.
Restoration of Barrel Vaults (Centina)
The centina, or barrel vault, is an arched structure commonly found in churches, historic palaces, and arcades. Temporarily supported by centering frames during construction, the vault evenly distributes weight toward the load-bearing walls.
DelArs Restauri carries out conservation work on wooden centering frames, masonry vaults, and decorated vaults, preserving both the structure and the painted or plastered surfaces.
